Free, curriculum-aligned music programs reaching more than 70,000 students across Houston
In the Greater Houston area, 77.1% of Houston Independent School District children are economically disadvantaged, and 15% of campuses are considered “Arts Deserts”, with no fine arts teachers. Arts exposure cultivates essential skills such as creativity, innovation, problem-solving, and social competencies like empathy, collaboration, and diverse cultural awareness. Many schools face systemic challenges that limit students’ access to arts education, equipment, and training—often forcing them to miss out on opportunities critical to their development. Musiqa strives to fill this gap through its award-winning education programs.
Musiqa aims to expand and cultivate students’ interest in the arts. Our education programming strives to meet students’ needs by enhancing their experience and accessibility to the music-arts. We offer high-quality musical experiences designed to align with TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) for Fine Arts criteria relative to music literacy, creative expression, historical and cultural relevance, and critical evaluation. Over the past 22 years, our education programs have reached more than 70,000 public school students and teachers from 250+ schools and 10+ districts in the greater Houston area, all at no cost to the participants. Our programming provides musical exposure to students and others who may not otherwise have access to the arts through high-quality musical experiences.

MusiqaLab Performance December 2026 Houston Area Performance Venue
The fall showcase, held at participating school campuses. Students who have spent the semester composing alongside a professional Houston-based composer hear their original pieces performed live by Musiqa Artists, and every young composer steps forward to share the story behind their work. Free and open to the public.

Free Rein: Hobby Center Discovery Series January 11–14, 2027 Hobby Center for the Performing Arts
What happens in the brain when we create? “Free Rein,” composed by Anthony Brandt and choreographed by Andy and Dionne Noble, takes 4,000 Houston-area 5th graders and teachers inside dancers’ and musicians’ brains to investigate the art and neuroscience of creativity. Several performers wear wireless mobile brain-body imaging equipment, and students see live visualizations of their brain activity as the performers alternate between scripted and improvised dance and music. Presented with NobleMotion Dance as part of the ExxonMobil Discovery Series. Free admission.

MusiqaLab Performance May 2027 Houston Area Performance Venue
The combined spring concert, bringing young composers from across the MusiqaLab program together on a single stage. Each student’s original piece is performed live by Musiqa Artists, with the composer sharing the inspiration behind the work. Free and open to the public.

The Sound of Houston
An interactive, TEKS-aligned musical experience for elementary students, exploring Houston’s natural ecosystems through the perspective of an echolocating bat. It travels to your school — no buses or field trips required.

MusiqaLab
MusiqaLab for Young Composers brings professional composers inside Houston classrooms, empowering high school students to study composition, present original works, and hear their pieces performed by Musiqa artists.
Musiqa Coaching Sessions
Musiqa Coaching Sessions pair aspiring musicians with Musiqa professionals for personalized instruction, for students of all grade levels and instruments.
MusiqaStudio
MusiqaStudio provides high school artists with marketable, real-world skills in audio production. Students gain hands-on experience with recording software, soundboards, and microphones, learning essential techniques to produce professional-quality recordings. The program culminates in a Listening Party, where students share their completed projects. Beyond fostering technical skills, MusiqaStudio introduces students to alternative career paths in music, including audio engineering.
Online Programs
Musiqa Explorer
Individual units that explore music, poetry, movement and science using Musiqa productions and a host of special guests. Unique modules are available for students of all ages.
