MusiqaLab for Young Composers brings professional composers inside Houston classrooms, empowering high school students to study composition, present original works, and hear their pieces performed by Musiqa artists.

MusiqaLab is Houston’s launchpad for the next generation of composers: a semester-long hands-on composer-in-residency program that empowers high school students to create and present original musical works. A professional Houston-based composer visits the classroom 10–12 times, working directly with students to explore new sounds and develop original music. Musiqa performers join two sessions to read through student work and offer real-time feedback. The residency culminates in a public concert where Musiqa Artists perform each student’s original piece and every young composer steps forward to share the story behind their work. MusiqaLab empowers students to develop confidence, embrace creativity, and see themselves as contributors to the future of music.

MusiqaLab Concerts
December 2026 & May 2027 · Houston-area schools and venues · Free admission
Each semester, MusiqaLab places a professional composer inside Houston high school classrooms for a full semester of hands-on composition work. Students develop original pieces from first idea to finished score, then hear their work performed live by Musiqa Artists at two public concerts: a fall showcase at participating school campuses in December, and a combined spring concert in May bringing students from across the program together on a single stage. Every young composer shares the inspiration behind their piece. Free and open to the public.
